Hebrew 101
ALEPH
In Modern Hebrew, the letter represented either a glottal stop, or
has no pronunciation besides that of the vowel under it.

Aleph represents the number 1, and when used at the beginning
of Hebrew years, it means 1000 (i.e. א'תשנ"ד in numbers would be
the date 1754).

Aleph is also the first letter of the Hebrew word emet, which
means truth.
The letter Aleph is a picture of an ox. As the ox is strong, the letter
also has the meaning of strong.

Aleph also begins the three words that make up God's name in
Exodus, I Am That I Am, (in Hebrew, 'Ehye 'Asher 'Ehye).

Aleph is the head letter or "father" letter.  It is silent when alone.
This could depict the mystery or the part of God (Adonai) we don't
know.

The glottal stop is the sound made when the vocal cords are pressed
together to stop the flow of air and then released, and is the sound
in the middle of the interjection uh-oh.
