Our children our a precious commodity. They don't belong to us. They are God's children. But as stewards of our children, we must find out what God wants for them. We may have dreams and hopes for our children, but God created them for His good purpose. Our job is to pray and seek God so that he can direct us on how to guide, love and encourage our children toward His design. One good rule to remember is that you are the parent and it is your job to train your children in what is right and healthy. Don't comprise to the world's standards. The world is ever changing. In fact, the world seems to be changing faster and faster everyday. God said that He is the same, today, yesterday and forever. His standards and morals are stable in an unstable world. We can count on the Word of God to teach us, not Oprah or Dr. Phil or even Rabbi Shumely. A good place to start is reading one chapter on Proverbs everyday. Just like taking a multi-vitamin. Also, remember to learn and memorize scripture and teach you children to do the same. When they are young, they can learn how to bless the Lord by learning the Psalms.
